First chairpersons’ meeting

The first meeting of the chairs and co-chairs took place on 30-31 January 2024 at the Institute of Geography, Ruhr-Universität Bochum. The predecessor and successor chairs Prof. Dr. Carsten Jürgens and Dr. Valerie Graw, respectively, invited and hosted the predecessor and successor co-chairs Prof. Dr. Derya Maktav and Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Topan. Prof. Dr. Carsten Jürgens gave a presentation introducing the University and the Institute; Dr. Valeri Graw gave a presentation on the activities of the Institute; Prof. Dr. Derya Maktav gave information on the activities and events organised by the Urban Remote Sensing SIG since its establishment; Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Topan gave presentations on the history, facilities, education and research activities of his University and Department, on GeoEtrim studies and on the history and current period of the Zonguldak Hard Coal Basin. The visit ended with a tour of the Institute and a discussion on the future work of the SIG Urban Remote Sensing and possible joint educational and research activities.
